The Four Agreements: Tools for Improving Relationships
THE FOUR AGREEMENTS, a book by Don Miguel Ruiz, provides us with a blueprint for improving our relationships.
- BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD Speak with integrity and honesty. Say what you mean and mean what you say. This agreement asks us to use our words carefully and to refrain from speaking against ourself or others.
- DON'T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY Remember that what others do is not because of you. It is, actually, a reflection of their own reality, thoughts and personality.
- DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS Be careful not to write the 'back script' on what others say or do. Find the courage to ask questions to prevent misunderstandings and communication breakdowns.
- ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST When you do your best, you can avoid negative self-judgment, regret, guilt and shame. Doing your best allows you to present your healthiest self in relationship with others.
By incorporating these FOUR AGREEMENTS into your relationships with family, friends and colleagues, you are setting the stage for healthy communication and positive relationships!!
